Run the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon for the Celiac Disease Center

The Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University has been allotted seven entries for the 2017 NYC Marathon. This means seven amazing athletes will be running to spread awareness and raise money for celiac disease on Team Celiac.

Team Celiac is "dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with gluten-related disorders through research, which leads to increased diagnosis, expert treatment, development of therapies and, eventually, a cure for those with the disease as well as prevention of the disease in future generations. All major goals of the Center! Team Celiac is the principal community fundraising program for the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University. All funds raised from Team Celiac Teammates and Friends go directly toward the Center’s research program."

If you have already been accepted for the 2017 NYC Marathon and would like to run for Team Celiac, please contact Cynthia Beckman at the center. While the runners for 2017 have already been chosen, the number of runners on behalf of the Celiac Disease Center for 2018 will be even greater! Celiac Disease Awareness Night with the San Jose Earthquakes

One of the things I really was missing since my move to the West Coast was being really active in the celiac community. I did start a Santa Cruz Celiac group on Facebook and also became a co-organizer of the Santa Cruz Gluten-Free Meetup group. It just hasn't been quite the same as my involvement in the celiac community as when I lived in New York City. When the opportunity arose last month to help the Celiac Community Foundation for Northern California plan a summer fundraiser, I jumped right in.

I am so excited to announce Celiac Disease Awareness Night with the San Jose Earthquakes. This is a big game between the San Jose Earthquakes and their rivals, the Los Angeles Galaxy which will be held at Stanford Stadium. I am so excited for a few reasons

  1. It's a fundraiser to benefit the Celiac Community Foundation for NorCal and Camp Celiac
  2. I've never been to a professional soccer game.
  3. I've never been to Stanford University.
  4. This "California Clasico" rivals match between the San Jose Earthquakes and the Los Angeles Galaxy is so popular that it usually sells out ever year.
  5. There is going to be a gluten-free TACO TRUCK! (Thank you Oaxacan Kitchen Mobile!)
  6. There are fireworks after the game.
If those aren't enough reasons to run and buy tickets to this game, I don't know what is! I can't wait to meet more people living with celiac disease in the San Francisco Bay area as well as enjoy an MLS game with fireworks.
